I was once asked to lead a project in an area where I had no expertise.
Naturally, I was anxious.
I spoke to the leader who had nominated me for this project. This was a person I trusted.
He listened to me patiently and addressed some of my concerns. Yet, I wasn't fully sold on his reasoning.
Sensing my discomfort, he said:
"Avinash, I understand there is a small chance that the project may fail. But rest assured, we won't let YOU fail."
Perhaps this was the assurance that I needed. I took a leap of faith and signed up for the project.
Looking back I can't be more grateful that I did so. This project pivoted my career in many wonderful ways.
Two reflections:
1. At times, when reason fails, faith works beautifully
2. We could all leap so much higher only if we knew that we have somewhere safe to fall back to and someone to cover our backs, just in case.
