Is India poised to become a high income country?
Weekend rumination from a proud Indian and pseudo-economist:
Economic progress requires fast and seamless mobility of the following four:
1. Information
2. Money
3. Goods
4. People
In the past decade India has made unprecedented progress on all four.
Information flow aided by almost universal mobile connectivity, money flow aided by UPI and other payments infrastructure, goods flow aided by GST reforms, and people flow aided by new roads, highways, and airports.
But economic progress is built and sustained on social progress. Education and health are two primary ones.
I wonder why:
Despite rapid advances in technology, a massive surge in entrepreneurial spirit and ecosystem, and relatively easy funding in the past years...
...we still do not have in sight any high quality, low cost, and scalable delivery models for basic education and primary health? Or is it just that I am living in a cave and not seeing them?
Our successive governments at all levels and across party lines have massively failed us on delivering basic education and health at the scale and quality needed for our country.
Question is: why our entrepreneurs and investors have also not been able to solve this?
