Leading People

The shadow a leader casts

In their school bus, my kids - like all other primary grade children - sit in the first few rows. The seniors sit in the back rows. That has been the norm.

Today, most of the seniors had a break day in between their ongoing exams. Back rows of the bus were empty.

The primary kids promptly occupied these seats. They were happy and ecstatic like they had received the opportunity of a lifetime.

My adult brain wondered who in their right mind would voluntarily sit in the back seat of a bus and feel happy?

But then kids are kids. They are curious. They are explorers. And they love to do what their authority figures (in this case, seniors but also parents and teachers) do.

And why only kids? Don't we adults also sub consciously follow the authority figures?

Leaders - something to ponder over. Your shadow looms larger than you realize.
