Brakes help the car move faster

Why does a #car have #brakes?

Brakes exist so the car can move fast.

Brakes provide us with an assurance of #control and #safety. Knowing that we can stop or slow down when needed gives us the #confidence to drive fast.

In our lives, our well-wishers - parents, spouse, siblings, good friends - are the brakes that propel our #progress and #growth.

However, we don't use these brakes often. Not wanting to slow down or change tracks, we tend to ignore their well-intentioned #advice. We tell ourselves: 'They don't get it' or 'I know it better' and keep going.

Only to flounder and #regret later.

#RajatGupta, the revered #CEO who fell from grace, illustrates this lucidly in his #memoir - #mindwithoutfear. He explains how, on many critical occasions, he ignored selfless advice from his wife Anita that could have steered his life in a #direction away from the events that drove him to the #prison.

Our family, friends, social norms, organizational processes, rules, laws - all seem to slow us down on the surface when in reality they are designed to help us move fast.

The faster we are moving the more we need the brakes.
