AI & Changing Work

Should the robot’s income be taxed?

Robots eating up jobs and diluting income of workers is no news anymore.

That's a technology driven structural shift in the economy.

Question worth pondering: is the time now ripe for governments to start taxing the income that robots help generate for companies, especially when they replace a human at work? AND, redeploy that tax income in re-skilling the human workforce on a massive scale?

This is easier said than done, given how large corporations follow complex, cross-country tax optimization strategies. But like all things that require a radical re-think, we must start somewhere.
