Trust is a currency I use very liberally.
In a new personal or professional relationship, my default mode is to start with100% trust in the other person.
I try not to judge.
I let the relationship evolve and then adjust my trust-meter based on my experience with the person.
In a way, this approach is highly liberating. It saves a lot of mental bandwidth that many people typically spend in sizing up the other person and deciphering a motive for the relationship. This approach also keeps me largely positive about people - almost always a good thing for them and for my own mental well being.
I have discovered that, in general, most people are trustworthy. They become a better version of themselves when you place unfettered trust in them.
The world becomes a better place.
There is a downside though. This approach is not always very efficient. Slows you down a bit - you have to invest time to adjust your trust meter over time. You may come across as less smart to the other person. And, once in a while, you may feel cheated.
But all things considered, in the long run, this is a far more effective approach to a positive and fulfilling life.
