Life & Perspective

The better door we almost missed

Took the kids to a nearby park this morning. I didn't care to carry any cash and they didn't accept UPI for entry fees. So, we couldn't go inside. The kids felt dejected. And I felt guilty.

As I was pondering over what to do next, the elder one pointed to the famous cable bridge nearby and suggested we go there. They take this route everyday to their school but obviously never get down for a leisurely walk. So this seemed like a good idea to all of us.

It turned out to be a fun trip - soaking in scenic beauty and fresh morning air while walking, jogging, chatting and occasionally stopping to click some pics. We wrapped it all up with yummy south Indian breakfast at a local joint.

At the end of it - body tired, tummy filled, and soul content - as we got into the car to go back home, the younger one quipped:

"It was actually good that we couldn't go inside the park. We wouldn't have had so much fun there"

The elder one quickly nodded in agreement and went on to add her own commentary. This was one of those rare occasions when the siblings unanimously agree on something.

I smiled to myself and thought of adding a philosophical punchline to their discussion:

"When life closes one door, it probably is directing us to a better door ahead".

I refrained though and let them continue with their chatter. Children learn best from their own experience.
