The 100/100 guy.
We all know those few people from our school/college who would score a perfect 100 in a particular subject. These would be the go-to person for that subject for everyone.
And then there would be those who wouldn’t be a 100/100 on any one subject. But averaged across all subjects, they might be a 95/100. Typically these would be the toppers of the class.
There are fund managers whose fund’s performance is not among the top three in any given year. But averaged over a decade, their fund is the top performer.
What have these guys figured out that one subject geniuses have not?
It’s the art of balance.
Knowing how to allocate their time, effort, and focus so that no single weakness - or one bad year - derails them completely.
These people do not obsess over winning a segment. Their focus is on winning the whole game. The long game.

Something strange but predictable happens when we grow up.
Most of us fall into the “one-subject genius” trap. We focus too much on one area—career, fitness, money, or even relationships—often neglecting the rest. And we feel like we’re winning… until much later, when the overall scorecard tells a different story.
Question: are you optimizing for a single segment—or the long game?
What’s your take? I’d love to hear how you balance your “overall scorecard” in life.
