Took a South India road trip during the year end. 2000+ km with family. Some random reflections:
Long distance driving this time felt meditative- a welcome distraction perhaps from our perennially distracted lives
Highway driving discipline in India has improved over the past few years. But heavy vehicles continue to be a menace.
Pack 3 generations in a confined space (car) over long hours and magic happens. You discover new things about your own folks.
It’s common knowledge that you can spend a lifetime savouring regional variations in idli, dosa, sambhar, and filter coffee. But the happy surprise was non-veg food with local flavours, in not-so-fancy places.
Madurai feels different from other cities in Tamilnadu. Not in a good way.
Faith is a strange thing. To the modern rationale mind, its symbols and rituals seem stupid at first. Then you somehow get pulled in, and often end up raving about the experience.
Navigating steep hairpin bends on ghat roads with 90s Bollywood playing in the background is therapeutic.
EV range anxiety is over-blown. If you have 300 km real world range on your car, you don’t need meticulous charging plan before a trip, at least for major highways and cities in the South.
Didn’t open LinkedIn for a few days and - going by the number of mindless notifications I received - felt flattered by how much LinkedIn seemed to miss me.
