The dream that changed along the way

I recently bumped into somene I had known during college.

Back in the days, I was impressed by his language skills. Had an amazing way with words. Future bestselling author - I thought.

But he had other plans. He wanted to join the Indian Police Services (IPS). His passion was infectious.

Sadly, he couldn't get into the #IPS. Despite multiple attempts over the years.

He is a happy man today. But regrets wasting his prime years.

Got me thinking.

#Passion is over-rated - fuelled by pop psychology.

Many people spend years following their 'passion'. Then find out they were not cut out for it. Or, having fulfilled it, realise it is not as charming as they earlier thought.

For any meaningful outcome, passion needs to align with #skills, and the 'needs of the world'. All three are dynamic - they change with time and circumstances. #Luck plays a little role, in bringing them together.

So, what's the best strategy?

Put your best in whatever you are doing now. Know and grow your strengths. Observe the world around you. Proactively assess the possibilities and pathways it offers - based on where you stand today. Be bold enough to take your first step on the path of your liking. Iterate as needed.

And then, let the #universe conspire to get to you what it has in store for you.
