Is your job a transaction or an investment?
The way you look at it can change your life.
No matter how much you make, your salary/bonus/stock options are not adequate compensations for committing full-time to an organization.
They are all just retainers.
The real reward that good organizations offer are:
1. Apprenticeship - the opportunity to learn things that can only be learnt through deliberate practice, ideally with some guidance and handholding from more experienced folks. You can't learn these in university nor in a fancy training program.
2. Continuous feedback - so you can be a better professional every single day, week, and month.
If these investments are made, your career will be an appreciating asset.
If not, your value will depreciate fast. More so in times like these when life cycle of skills are shortening faster than we realize.
Choose a good investor. And invest in yourself, with them.
