The coachability that sets people apart

I have been hiring fresh MBAs from top business schools for over a decade now.

For most of these graduates, some traits are a given - high IQ, motivated, ability to work in a fast-paced environment, etc.

So, what differentiates the best from the rest?

Anecdotally, and at the risk of over simplifying, I would say that a good predictor of performance and success in early to mid stages of career for these high performers is: coachability.

The ones who overtime differentiate themselves are people who are good at:

✅ Observing and taking cues from their immediate operating environment

✅ Seeking feedback - proactively - from their key stakeholders

✅ Finding 1-2 mentors within the organization who can guide/coach them without any vested interest
