The meeting notes I did not take

Early in my first consulting engagement, my manager took me to a meeting with a senior client executive.

After the meeting, he asked me to send the meeting minutes to the team.

I realized I had not taken any notes.

I put down the best I could remember and circulated it.

After a while, the manager sent a reply-all with a revised version, adding lots of critical information that I had missed.

No words were exchanged between us on this topic but I learnt two lessons:

[1] You can teach a lot by showing the right behaviour at the right time, without saying a word. It's called apprenticeship.

[2] Don't trust your memory for anything that's important. Take notes, generously.
