The problems we choose to solve

I think most smart people have a personality disorder.

They can’t bear their mind being idle. They grow restless and feel irrelevant.

If you are smart, you typically grow through three levels of intelligence:

Level 1: You are happy as long as you have a problem – almost any problem - to solve. Your goal is to feed your intellect.

Level 2: You pick the problems you want to solve. Your goal if to feed your intellect with something that gives you meaning.

Level 3: You focus on problems that need to be solved. Your goal is to feed your intellect with something that gives you meaning while leaving a legacy.

Only a few get to the next – and the ultimate - level of intelligence.

Here you realize that you don’t always have to feed your intellect. You learn to enjoy stillness and idleness. You find joy and wonder in the magic of the creation.

Good news: You don’t have to go through levels 1-3 to reach this level. Heck, you don’t even need to be smart.

A little bit of training your mind can get you here.

They call it #meditation .
