On one of my early consulting engagements, three months of my work on the project ended up in the appendix when we were readying the final review presentation for the client CXO team.
I was dejected.
The next day during the review, which was originally supposed to last 90 minutes, we spent ~3 hours on the appendix discussing those same slides.
I have many more interesting 'appendix' stories from my consulting days.
The lesson in all of them:
Take your work seriously and let your best come out, every single time.
Sometimes you may get a front seat and sometimes a back seat (aka appendix). It does not matter.
You don't know when the spotlight will shine on you. But when it does, you must be camera ready.
